The Department of Computer Science at the College of Science for Women, in collaboration with the Psychological Counseling and Educational Guidance Unit, organized an awareness workshop titled “The Biology of Addiction.” The workshop was delivered by Dr. Mahdi Saleh Blasim, Director of the National Program for Drug Control at the Ministry of Health, and was attended by the Assistant Dean for Scientific Affairs, Assist.Prof.Dr. Yusra Abdul Sahib, along with a number of faculty members, staff, and students.

The workshop aimed to enhance individuals’ understanding of the biological nature and psychological factors related to addiction, thereby promoting awareness and encouraging effective preventive and therapeutic measures. It addressed various aspects of addiction from biological, psychological, and social perspectives, highlighting the impact of addiction on both individuals and society, as well as strategies for coping and treatment. A detailed explanation was provided on how drugs affect the human body, particularly their negative impact on the functionality and efficiency of neural and sensory cells.

This workshop supports Sustainable Development Goal 3, which calls for ensuring healthy lives and promoting well-being for all at all ages.
