Assistant Lecturer Mohammed Khamis Ghabban, Head of the Media and Government Communications Division at the College of Languages, participated in the conversation club organized by the Institute of Oriental Studies at Herzen State Pedagogical University in Russia. He delivered an online lecture titled “Points of Contact in Culture, Literature, and Education Between Baghdad and Saint Petersburg,” attended by students and professors specializing in Arabic and Russian languages.
The participation aimed to strengthen cultural ties between the Iraqi and Russian peoples by highlighting the teaching of Russian language and literature at the College of Languages and showcasing the most significant cultural and historical landmarks of Baghdad.
The lecture covered various topics, including an overview of the lecturer’s alma mater and its scientific and cultural importance, as well as the lecturer’s personal experiences and challenges encountered during his studies in Russia.
Students and professors actively engaged by asking questions about translation experiences, differences between Russian and Arabic literature, and the importance of studying Arabic in Russian universities, adding a dynamic dimension to the lecture.
This participation falls within the framework of scientific and cultural cooperation between the University of Baghdad and Russian universities. It is worth noting that Assistant Lecturer Mohammed Khamis holds a master’s degree in Russian literature from Saint Petersburg State University and has numerous scientific contributions inside and outside Iraq, in addition to several translation works in literature, philosophy, and history.
This lecture aligns with one of the Sustainable Development Goals, specifically Goal 17, which emphasizes partnerships to achieve these objectives.
