Professor Dr. Mahmoud Saleh Al-Khafaji from the Department of Water Resources Engineering, College of Engineering, University of Baghdad, chaired a meeting organized by the Prime Minister’s Office Adviser for Scientific, Academic, and Artificial Intelligence Affairs to discuss smart digital solutions for managing water systems in Iraq.
The meeting included presentations of advanced technologies based on the use of smart water meters, which involve mechanisms for reading, recording, and transmitting data, and linking them to centralized databases. It also examined the application of these solutions in monitoring, managing, and operating water distribution systems in urban areas, addressing both the advantages and disadvantages of these systems.
The meeting concluded with proposals to implement these solutions in case studies across Iraq, including Baghdad and other provinces, to improve the efficiency of water resource management in the country.
This meeting aligns with the Sustainable Development Goals, specifically Goal 11—Sustainable Cities and Communities—and Goal 17, which emphasizes partnerships to achieve these objectives.
