Two faculty members from the University of Baghdad, Prof.Dr. Alaa Hussein Alwan and Assist.Prof.Dr. Ali Adel Abdul-Hamid, have been elected as members of the Scientific Concrete Society in Iraq, following elections held at the University of Technology to select the Society’s new administrative board, which comprises seven members. Prof.Dr. Alaa Hussein Alwan was also elected President of the Society.
The Society, through its administrative board and in collaboration with specialists in concrete structures and its general assembly members, aims to advance engineering design and construction projects in Iraq. It also seeks to organize regular scientific workshops and discussion panels to explore ways of enhancing the concrete industry and promoting innovation within the sector.
It is noteworthy that the Scientific Concrete Society in Iraq was established in accordance with the Scientific Societies Law No. 55 of 1981 (as amended), and based on Ministerial Order No. (168) issued by the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research on January 7, 2025. This achievement aligns with Sustainable Development Goal 9, which promotes industry, innovation, and infrastructure.
