The College of Physical Education and Sports Sciences for Women at the University of Baghdad held a celebration on the occasion of International Women’s Day, attended by the President of University, Prof.Dr. Bahaa Ibraheem Ansaf, the Prime Minister’s Advisor for Social Protection Affairs, Ms. Sanaa Mohammed Al-Mousawi, the Dean of the College, Prof.Dr. Fatima Abdul Malih, and the Dean of the College of Physical Education and Sports Sciences, Prof.Dr. Sabah Qasim Khalaf.

The event featured a range of activities that highlighted the role of women in sports and society, in honor of their achievements across various fields — particularly in the area of physical education. In her opening speech, the Dean emphasized the vital role of women in society, both within the family and in various professional arenas. She noted that the field of physical education is closely tied to influential leadership professions such as education and medicine.

The celebration also included awareness seminars on women’s empowerment in the sports sector, along with athletic performances and competitions designed to promote participation and interaction among female students. In recognition of their contributions, several prominent women figures who have played key roles in advancing and supporting women’s sports were honored. The President of the University of Baghdad expressed his pride in the role of women within the academic and scientific communities, underscoring the importance of supporting their continued success in the field of sports. This celebration is part of the college’s ongoing efforts to strengthen the status of women and empower them across various sectors.

This initiative aligns with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, specifically Goal 3 ensuring healthy lives and promoting well-being for all at all ages and Goal 5 achieving gender equality by enhancing the developmental role of women in achieving sustainable development objectives.
