The University of Baghdad topped the list of Iraqi universities in the Spanish (Shimako) ranking for the year 2025, which includes thousands of international universities, while Al-Mustansiriya University came in second place, the University of Technology in third place, and the University of Babylon in fourth place.

Sixty-seven Iraqi universities were able to appear in the ranking, which is based on three main criteria: scientific research, innovation, and societal impact.

The President of the University of Baghdad, Prof. Dr. Bahaa Ibraheem Ansaf, stated that this achievement is the result of great efforts in promoting scientific research and linking it to the needs of society, stressing that the university is working on ambitious plans to achieve further progress in the coming years.

It is noteworthy that the University of Baghdad jumped 363 places compared to last year, to enter the list of universities in the first quarter globally, an achievement that is one of the most important achievements of Iraqi universities in international rankings.

This progress shows an improvement in the scientific research and innovation environment in Iraq in accordance with the plans implemented by the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research in recent years.

This achievement contributes to one of the sustainable development goals represented by the fourth goal, which calls for quality education, as well as the ninth goal of industry, innovation and infrastructure, and the seventeenth goal of partnership to achieve the goals.
