The Department of Spanish Language at the College of Languages at the University of Baghdad celebrated the activities of the Cultural Day of the Department of Spanish Language in the presence of the Ambassador of the Kingdom of Spain (Alicia Rico Pérez del Polgar).

During his speech, the Dean of the College of Languages stressed the importance of strengthening the scientific and cultural aspects between the two countries and the need to activate the role of scholarships and summer courses for students and college members in the field of training and language development, while seeking to host the Institute of Cervantes to be an important initiative in the field of cultural exchange between Iraq and Spain.

For her part, Alicia Rico praised the department’s efforts in teaching the Spanish language and the performance of students and their mastery of the language and promised to facilitate the procedures supporting academic development at the College of Languages and stated that it is a great honor to participate in the celebration of the Spanish Cultural Day.

The celebration included a presentation by the students of the department that contained literary and linguistic activities in Arabic and Spanish, including the poem (My Homeland), which sang about the love of Iraq, and the play (A Boat Without a Fisherman), which embodied the call to do good and renounce evil, in addition to several activities that showed the students’ ability to master the Spanish language, and in conclusion, a patriotic song about great Iraq.

This celebration achieves one of the sustainable development goals represented by the fourth and ninth goals, which call for quality education as well as industry, innovation, and infrastructure.
