The College of Medicine at the University of Baghdad hosted a major celebration on the occasion of Iraqi medical colleges obtaining international accreditation from the International Medical Accreditation Council, under the auspices of the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research, and in the presence of the Undersecretary of the Ministry of Higher Education for Administrative Affairs, Prof. Dr. Adnan Al-Jumaili, the Head of the Supervision and Evaluation Authority, Prof. Dr. Salah Hadi Al-Fatlawi, the President of the University of Baghdad, Prof. Dr. Bahaa Ibrahim Insaf, the President of the World Federation for Medical Education, Professor Ricardo Leon Burquez, the Dean of the College of Medicine, Prof. Dr. Amin Al-Alwani, and the deans of the colleges of Medicine in Iraq.

The international accreditation of Iraqi medical colleges is a certificate of recognition of the quality of medical education in Iraq and its commitment to international standards. It opens new horizons for students and graduates and enhances their chances of academic and professional competition at the international level.

In his speech, the Dean of the College of Medicine stressed that this achievement reflects the tireless efforts made by Iraqi academic institutions to reach the highest standards of medical education, noting that this accreditation is a historic step that will contribute to enhancing Iraq’s reputation as a leading country in medical education in the region.

This event is also a turning point in the process of Iraqi medical education, as it opens new horizons for academic cooperation with international institutions, and enhances opportunities for international recognition of graduates’ certificates, which contributes to raising the efficiency of Iraqi medical staff in various scientific and professional forums.

This activity achieves one of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) III and IV, which call for ensuring healthy lives and promoting well-being for all ages, as well as quality education.
