The College of Islamic Sciences at the University of Baghdad held a workshop titled “Social Perspectives on Rejecting Division and Extremism.” The session featured lectures by Dr. Ayman Sarim Shakeeb and Dr. Ali Talib, who provided an in-depth analysis of the issue, examining its various dimensions and its significance within Islamic societies.
The workshop shed light on the root causes of division and extremism and explored their detrimental effects on individuals and society. The speakers proposed a range of solutions and initiatives aimed at fostering unity and fraternity among Muslims while rejecting all forms of intolerance and extremism.
The event was marked by extensive discussions and an exchange of views among participants, enriching the dialogue and offering a comprehensive perspective on the topic. At the conclusion of the workshop, emphasis was placed on the need for collective efforts from various social and cultural institutions to combat the threats of division and extremism and to build a society rooted in tolerance and peaceful coexistence.
Participants also underscored the importance of continued research and academic inquiry into this subject, along with organizing additional workshops and seminars to raise awareness among young people and safeguard them against extremist ideologies. Furthermore, they highlighted the crucial role of educational and media institutions in promoting a culture of tolerance and dialogue, while reinforcing the values of citizenship and equality for all members of society.
This workshop contributes to the achievement of Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 16, which advocates for peace, justice, and strong institutions.
