The College of Islamic Sciences at the University of Baghdad organized a workshop on “The Role of Contemporary International Rulings in Reducing Violence and Discrimination Against Women,” which was presented by Prof. Dr. Hanaa Mohammad Hussein Ahmed and Prof. Dr. Ahmed Shaker Mahmoud.

The event discussed the significance of international rulings in combating violence and discrimination against women, highlighting the Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination Against Women (1979) and the Optional Protocol of 1999, as two of the most important international documents aimed at protecting women’s rights and enhancing their role in society.

The workshop addressed several key topics, including the definition of violence and discrimination against women and their various forms, contemporary international rulings related to the protection of women from violence and discrimination, the role of the CEDAW Convention and the Optional Protocol in promoting women’s rights, and the challenges faced in implementing international rulings in practice.

At the conclusion of the activity, the importance of both international and local efforts to implement international rulings related to the protection of women was emphasized, alongside the need to activate the role of both governmental and non-governmental organizations in this field.
