The College of Pharmacy at the University of Baghdad, the Psychological Counseling and Educational Guidance Unit, under the supervision of Dr. Shaima Abdul Zahra Abbas, held a panel discussion entitled (Cancer Vaccines) presented by the Pharmacine Search Club.

The seminar discussion aimed to define the concept of the vaccine in general and the mechanism of its work and to present the latest developments and published studies on the therapeutic and preventive cancer vaccine.

The episode began by asking the audience: “Are there cancer vaccines? If so, is it given to the patient before or after diagnosis?” Through the students’ interaction with the question, the difference between preventive vaccines and therapeutic vaccines was clarified, with examples of each type.

The panel discussion addressed the mechanisms of action of cancer vaccines and their role in strengthening the immune system, citing the results of two recent studies on the development of new vaccines against cancer. After that, details of the news related to the Russian anti-cancer vaccine were presented, with an explanation of its method of action and mechanism in the fight against cancer cells. An example of an Iraqi study that used the attenuated measles vaccine to treat breast cancer was also given, with a detailed explanation of how it works and its potential effects.

At the end of the seminar, the objectives of the session and recommendations were reviewed based on the information and research presented.
