The Higher Institute for Accounting and Financial Studies at the University of Baghdad participated in the Conference on Internal Oversight and Auditing, organized by the Financial Audit Bureau under the theme: “Internal Oversight: The First Line of Defense in Combating Corruption and Promoting Transparency.”
The conference was held under the patronage of Prime Minister Mohammed Shia’ Al-Sudani and attended by the Dean of the Institute, Assist.Prof.Dr. Ali Mohammed Thjeel Al-Maamouri, alongside government officials, experts, and specialists in oversight and internal auditing.
The conference aimed to strengthen internal oversight mechanisms and institutional transparency as part of the government’s commitment to combating corruption. It emphasized the importance of supporting and developing internal auditing as a key procedural step in anti-corruption strategies. Additionally, it highlighted efforts to elevate internal auditing departments to general directorates, ensuring they are fully empowered to combat corruption effectively.
Participants discussed the latest developments in oversight practices and exchanged ideas on enhancing internal auditing mechanisms to improve their effectiveness in preventing financial misconduct.
Dr. Ammar Sobhi Khalaf, President of the Federal Financial Audit Bureau, affirmed the bureau’s commitment to advancing the auditing profession in Iraq. He referenced Article 4, Section 5 of Law No. 31 of 2011 (as amended), which mandates the bureau to develop accounting and auditing professions, enhance financial systems, and improve the performance of entities under its supervision.
The conference concluded with recommendations emphasizing increased support for internal auditing directorates and enhancing their operational efficiency to uphold financial integrity and transparency.
