Dr. Diaa Al-Saray, the Communications and Information Officer at the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) Iraq Office, visited the College of Mass Communication at the University of Baghdad to discuss collaboration on launching the international project “Community Media for Peace.” The initiative, which UNESCO will implement in over ten countries, includes Iraq as one of its key locations.

Dr. Al-Saray was received by Prof.Dr. Ammar Tahir Mohammed, Dean of the College, where they discussed the significance of the project in strengthening the role of community media in promoting a culture of peace and tolerance. They also explored strategies for implementing the initiative in Iraq in partnership with academic and media institutions.

The meeting further addressed the possibility of supporting the College of Media with modern tools, equipment, and technologies, as well as upgrading training studios and classrooms to meet quality standards and sustainable development requirements.

During the discussion, Dr. Tahir emphasized the project’s importance in empowering young media professionals by equipping them with the necessary skills to promote peaceful discourse and social coexistence. He also praised UNESCO’s efforts in supporting and advancing Iraq’s media sector.

 

At the conclusion of the visit, Dr. Al-Saray toured the college’s facilities, including laboratories, classrooms, and studios, to assess the available resources and the college’s readiness to host such international projects. He expressed appreciation for the college’s role in training media professionals and supporting social causes through media initiatives.
