The Department of Geography at the College of Arts, University of Baghdad, conducted a field study for Ph.D. student Sahr Abdel-Razza, titled “Spatial Modeling of Morphodynamic Hazards and Their Impact on the Stability of the Horman Mountain Range, East of Sulaymaniyah Governorate.”

The study aimed to collect field data on hazards, identify their causes, classify them, and determine their locations. It also included morphometric measurements of certain mountain slopes, as well as rock samples for laboratory analysis to identify the types of minerals present. Based on this, the study determined the rocks’ hardness and their resistance to weathering and erosion processes within the study area.

The study concluded that immediate interventions by the relevant authorities are necessary to protect transportation routes, human settlements, and tourist sites from these hazards, which have shown significant activity and danger.
