The President of the University of Baghdad, Prof.Dr. Bahaa Ibraheem Ansaf, convened a meeting with the preparatory committee tasked with organizing the Sustainable Development Conference and Festival under the theme “Investing in Knowledge for Sustainable Development.”

The conference aims to bring together a distinguished group of experts, researchers, and academics from various disciplines to discuss the latest developments in sustainable development, exchange expertise and knowledge, and establish a roadmap to support the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) of the United Nations, which constitute a global priority.

Turning to the meeting, seeks to focus on a set of SDGs tailored to Iraq’s context and challenges, with particular emphasis on goals such as quality education, gender equality, decent work and economic growth, innovation and infrastructure, sustainable cities and communities, and other relevant objectives.

The committee members agreed on the importance of presenting innovative academic research addressing various aspects of sustainable development, emphasizing practical and applicable solutions that could improve quality of life in Iraq. Additionally, the committee decided to adopt a broad dissemination strategy for the conference research outputs, including publishing in reputable scientific journals and organizing specialized workshops and conferences to explore the findings and promote them. The conference is expected to yield a set of recommendations and policies that the University of Baghdad can implement to enhance sustainable development on campus and in the local community.

The president of the university stressed the importance of involving all university formations in this significant event, including students, faculty, and staff, stating that the conference represents an essential step toward achieving the university’s vision of becoming a leader in sustainable development in Iraq and the region. He also underscored the importance of collaboration with governmental institutions, international organizations, and the private sector to achieve the objectives of the conference.
