During its fifth session at the College of Administration and Economics, the Council of the University of Baghdad issued a set of important decisions that aim to improve research and scientific performance in research centers, by strengthening cooperation between those centers and various university formations.
The recommendations of the Council included emphasizing the importance of holding joint workshops between colleges and research centers to enhance cooperation and exchange of experiences, as well as assigning the deanships of colleges to host the directors of research centers in their councils to see the progress of the work of these centers to enhance aspects of cooperation between them.
The decisions of the Council included supporting research centers scientifically and financially by the colleges of the university, based on a previous decision of the University Council in its session held on April 30, 2023. The decisions also included the redistribution of buildings for research centers and attention to their maintenance and infrastructure development.
The Council also confirmed the involvement of teachers working in research centers to supervise graduate students as secondary supervisors, in addition to their participation in university thesis discussion committees, in accordance with a decision issued in March of the same year.
The Council directed the assignment of the Assistant President for Scientific Affairs, Prof. Suhail Najm Abdullah, to study the proposal to establish a central publishing house aimed at publishing the university’s scientific production and enhancing its academic position, as well as assigning the Department of Media and Government Communication to cover the scientific and cultural activities of research centers, in addition to producing films documenting the role of research centers and their contributions to serving the university and society.
Within the framework of strengthening partnerships with state institutions, the Council directed the departments of research centers to form industrial advisory councils that include experts from government departments and institutions, to join research activity to the needs of society.
For his part, the President of the University of Baghdad, Prof. Dr. Bahaa Ibraheem Ansaf, stressed that these decisions come within the university’s efforts to develop scientific research and enhance the position of its research centers as a key motivator for innovation and academic creativity in Iraq.
