Student from College of Physical Education and Sports Sciences Breaks World Record in Weightlifting

Ali Ammar Yaser, a student at the College of Physical Education and Sports Sciences at the University of Baghdad, achieved a distinguished sporting accomplishment by winning the silver medal in the weightlifting competitions at the 20th Asian Games, held in Aichi-Nagoya, Japan.

The student delivered an exceptional performance during the competition, crowned by breaking the world record in the snatch event after successfully lifting 219 kg, adding a new achievement to his sporting record, which is already rich in outstanding results.

On this occasion, the Presidency of the University of Baghdad, represented by its President, Prof. Dr. Alaa Abdul Hassan Atiyah Hassan, extends its warmest congratulations and best wishes to the student Ali Ammar, promising to honor him in a manner befitting the magnitude of his achievement, and wishing him continued success and further accomplishments in raising the name of Iraq high in international sporting arenas.

This achievement supports several Sustainable Development Goals, namely Goal Three (ensuring healthy lives and promoting wellbeing for all at all ages), Goal Four (quality education), as well as Goal Seventeen (partnerships for achieving the goals).
