Dr. Mahmoud Abdullah Jasim, Director of the Market Research and Consumer Protection Center at the University of Baghdad, represented the Iraqi Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research at the 2024 International Product Safety Week in Belgium.
The event, which brought together specialists and experts from around the world, was held at the headquarters of the Economic Committee of the European Union in Brussels. The discussions aimed at establishing a clear framework to ensure the safety of goods and products exported from industrialized countries to the European Union. The objective of the conference was to engage with experts from exporting nations to develop a transparent mechanism that guarantees the export of safe goods and products to the EU market. The activity also included an exhibition showcasing unsafe goods and products identified by the relevant authorities within the European Union.
Over the course of the four-day conference, a key conclusion was the necessity of urging exporting countries to report goods and products that do not comply with the technical standards, laws, and regulations in force within the European Union.
Dr. Jasim also emphasized the important role of the Market Research and Consumer Protection Center in verifying the products available in the local Iraqi market and ensuring their conformity with relevant regulations. This is achieved through the scientific research conducted by the center’s faculty members across various fields to identify unsafe goods and products.
