The President of the University of Baghdad, Prof. Dr. Bahaa Ibraheem Ansaf, received the Head of the East Department at the German Institute of Archaeology, Professor Margaret van S, to discuss the latest developments and executive steps for the establishment of the Iraqi-German Center for Archaeology and Assyrians, in the presence of the Dean of the Faculty of Arts, Prof. Dr. Ali Abdul Amir Saget.

The two sides discussed the latest developments in completing the executive procedures for the opening of the Iraqi Center for Archaeology and Assyrians at the College of Arts at the University of Baghdad, for his part, Insaf praised this academic step, which contributes to expanding the international activity of the mother university, and provides benefit to professors, graduate students and researchers, stressing the importance of this project in strengthening Iraq’s position as an incubator for civilizations, as it will contribute to training young Iraqi cadres in the field of archeology, and developing scientific research to preserve heritage.

The establishment of the center after completing the original approvals is an advanced step for the University of Baghdad in opening up to the corresponding German institutions in the field of archeology, Assyrians, and ancient history, and expanding the fields of humanities and social sciences and joint research projects. This meeting came within the framework of the University of Baghdad’s keenness to enhance scientific and academic cooperation with international research institutions, especially in the field of archeology and the preservation of Iraqi cultural heritage.
