The College of Pharmacy organized an in-person workshop titled Environmental Conservation: Proper Disposal of Chemicals in Laboratories,” under the supervision of the Dean of the College, Assist.Prof.Dr.Sarmad Hashem Al-Khatib. The workshop aimed to educate laboratory workers on proper methods for disposing of chemicals.
The workshop covered methods for separating solid chemicals from liquids, as well as the classification and separation of liquid substances based on their chemical properties. It also included procedures for segregating broken glassware from intact pieces, and for handling sharp tools, each placed in designated containers labeled with detailed information about their contents.
The workshop concluded on the importance of adhering to safety and health regulations, proper procedures, and guidelines for disposing of chemicals in laboratories. This ensures the safety of lab workers and community members by preventing exposure to chemical hazards. Additionally, it emphasized the significance of environmental preservation, aiming to prevent pollution of water, air, and soil.
