The University of Baghdad hosted recently a ceremony organized by the Iraqi Academics Association on the occasion of the Iraqi Academics Day, on April 4, in the presence of His Excellency the minister of higher education and scientific research Prof. Dr. Nabil Kazem Abdul Sahib and assistant rector for administrative affairs Assist. Prof. Dr. Sarmad Fouad al-Ansari and a large number of professors and academics from a number of Iraqi universities.
The minister of higher education asserted in his speech the need to take care of academic faculty members and raise the level of workers in this vital sector and prepare plans and policies that promote the teaching process, stressing the need to take care of the affairs of academics, preserving their dignity in order to raise the reputation of Iraqi universities and institutes in line with their counterparts in civilized countries. The Captain of Iraqi Academics, Dr. Muhannad al-Hilal, for his part also delivered a speech at this ceremony in which he expressed the need to adhere to social values and enrich them in the spirit of tolerance, love of work, achievement, creativity and peaceful and honest competition, pointing out the importance of moderate dialogue away from intolerance and the spirit of intellectual and human openness urged by human laws. On the sidelines of the ceremony, an exhibition of photographs and sculptures was held with the participation of a number of Iraqi universities, as well as the participation of the Iraqi Maqam Band from the ministry of culture.
