A number of professors from the Department of Physics at the College of Science have participated jointly with researchers from the Iraqi Atomic Energy Authority in the proceedings of the 15th Arab Conference for Peaceful Uses of Atomic Energy, organized by the Arab Atomic Energy Authority in cooperation with the Egyptian Atomic Energy Authority in The City of Aswan, Egypt.

The aim of the conference is to highlight the results of linking scientific research and application in Arab work, particularly in the field of peaceful use of atomic energy, for the purpose of developing sustainable development in the life of contemporary Arab human beings and allowing researchers to present their research and studies to invest this energy, which can be used in several peaceful areas and adapted to serve development in the Arab world, as well as to maximize the role of nuclear sciences and their application in building the Arab economy and supporting community services in line with global developments in this regard. The conference, which was attended by the head of the department of physics, Prof. Dr. Ali Abdul Latif, with a research entitled “137Cs of contaminated liquid using natural Zeolite”, nuclear security in the management of radioactive waste.  The results showed that this type of zeolite is very effective in removing Caesium after the use of different weights of zeolite, while the conference included sessions and presentation of original and court papers, lectures and panel discussions on a number of scientific topics related to the areas of the conference’s themes.
