The follow-up department held a scientific workshop entitled (Drug addiction and human security) chaired by the professor of development sociology Dr. Adnan Yassin Mustafa from the college of education for women and attended by a number of faculty members and postgraduate students. The lecturer addressed the factors exacerbating this phenomenon and its causes by presenting a field research study on this subject.

One of the most important things he asserted is the diversity of pathogens in all ages, their complexity constantly in parallel with the progress of humanity in the fields of scientific and social development and various other areas of life including viral, organic and psychological diseases, with an emphasis on drug use and addiction. He added that it is no longer a secret to anyone that the consequences of such a threat is now evident across the nations, exposing them to the loss of a large number of their young people, leading to sickness, homelessness, madness or death as well as it is one of the biggest problems facing community and became a disturbing obsession that threatens our contemporary generations. The seriousness of this phenomenon has recently increased, especially when it has spread among young people, who are the backbone of every nation, including Iraq since statistics indicate an increase in the drug trafficking in a way not seen before, which has subsequently led to its spread in all provinces, particularly the border areas, resulting in a sense of alarm. The participants asserted that the process of reducing and mitigating this phenomenon requires the solidarity of all community parties (regulatory, legal, health, media, religious, educational institution), without forgetting the role of the family and social upbringing in controlling and reducing the practices of drug addiction.
