The center for women’s studies at the University of Baghdad has organized its second annual scientific conference entitled (women and the crises of the current reality from challenges to opportunities), in cooperation with Al-Araqah Foundation for Culture and Development, and in the presence of the assistant rector for scientific affairs Prof. Dr. Marwan Abdul Hamid Ashour and a number of prominent political and academic figures.
The aim of the conference, which was held under the slogan “Iraqi women are the icon of giving and challenge”, is to provide knowledge of the multidimensional impacts of the challenges faced by the Iraqi community and the reality of women’s status to diagnose some gaps in legal protection for them, as well as to reveal shifts in gender roles that accompany crises as a whole. The conference addressed several topics, including education, economic empowerment, policy and interventions to enhance women’s resilience when encountering hardships, diagnosis of factors affecting women’s empowerment and psychological support for, as well as their role in managing the Coronavirus pandemic and the role of family in reducing the use of electronic games, in addition to empowering working women to take leading positions in government institutions.
