The college of medicine of the University of Baghdad, in collaboration with the WHO Regional Office for the Eastern Mediterranean, has organized an introductory symposium on the objectives and mission of the World Health Organization (WHO). The lecturers addressed various topics regarding the foundation of this organization, its regional offices, as well as highlighted the tasks and responsibilities of WHO office in the Far East region and the importance of working to develop the health systems at those countries, including Iraq, providing supplies and requirements for health institutions, qualifying their employees, developing their skills and drawing up a roadmap for flexible and high-quality health systems that promote and maintain public health.
The symposium was attended by His Excellency the minister of health Dr. Hani al-Iqabi, the Regional Director of the Office of Eastern Mediterranean Countries, Dr. Ahmed Bin Salem al-Mundhri, Head of the WHO Mission in Iraq, Dr. Ahmed Zweitin, in addition to a high-level delegation of WHO’s members. In conclusion, the deanship of the college of medicine, Dr. Ali Kamel al-Shalji, dean of the college dedicated the shield of creativity to the director of the regional office and head of the organization’s mission in Iraq. In turn, the guests also dedicated the WHO’s shield and a certificate of thanks & appreciation to the dean of the college in recognition of his scientific and academic efforts as well as his giving and creative career.
