The Children’s Nursing Branch, in collaboration with the Continuing Education Unit at the College of Nursing, has organized a workshop on drug addiction that destroyed society in the presence of a number of faculty members and students of undergraduate and postgraduate studies. This workshop was presented by Assist. Prof. Dr. Fadel Shaker Hassan from the Continuing Education Center at the presidency of the University of Baghdad. The workshop aimed to identify the meaning of behavioral determinants and their impact on reducing causes of drug addiction and the steps necessary to prevent the risks of this current negative phenomenon and its consequences of life, as well as its material cost.

The lecturer stated that Iraq faced difficult circumstances, which lasted for many decades, increased in recent years after 2014, and the occupation of a number of cities by ISIS gangs, that coincided with a marked rise in the levels of drug proliferation in our country, which is a major threat to humanitarian security, efficiency of institutional performance and cohesion of the social fabric, all of which constituted an environment suitable for deviant behavior and crime in its various types, and with the aggravation of this phenomenon that its spread has created a continuing breeding of problems and a lack of social will and empowerment, which have had serious implications in Iraqi society that threaten opportunities for empowerment, development and opportunities to improve welfare indicators. At the conclusion of the workshop, the students expressed their thanks and gratitude to the organizers of this event who tried to shed light on the dangers of health and physical drug abuse to the individual and society and the steps necessary to prevent the risks of drug addiction.
