The University of Baghdad has recently won the first place locally in the Iraqi Ranking for Universities (IRU) 2022, according to a report issued by the ministry of higher education and scientific research. The specialists in the Quality Assurance Department of the Quality Assurance and Academic Accreditation Directorate related to the Scientific Supervision and Evaluation Directorate at the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research have conducted a comprehensive assessment of (83) government and private educational institutions in the country spread over (36) government universities, (47) private colleges and universities, (875) specialized colleges and (1729) scientific departments in order to upgrade the academic institutions in the country according to their scientific status.
The evaluation was based on criteria related to the institutional environment, academic programs, details and weights of each formation which were divided into two groups, the first being the standards of evaluation of institutional performance, which includes quality, institutional accreditation (20%), global rankings (15%), the effectiveness of scientific research (20%), community service (5%), maximizing resources (10%), number of faculty members (10%), number of students (15%), international diversity (5%), while others included standards for evaluating the performance of scientific departments such as quality & programmatic accreditation (35%), effectiveness of scientific research (30%), number of faculty members (20%) and number of students (15%). This achievement comes after the effort and keenness and continuous follow-up of the presidency of the university in improving the status of the university in order to get its eligibility as a solid scientific university integrated in the local and international classifications, where the results showed our distinguished university in first place followed by Al-Mustaqbal University College, in addition to (185) scientific departments that registered advanced positions in the corresponding disciplines.
