Prof. Dr. Athraa Ismail Zaidan, the director of the center for women’s studies at the University of Baghdad has received Susanne Goelles, the representative of the United Nations Assistance Mission in Iraq (UNAMI) and the Director of the Department of Women’s Rights in Baghdad, and Ms. Bushra al-Ibraheemi from the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights, with the aim to address the issue of women’s rights and the domestic abuse law as well as to exchange information so that to reduce the phenomenon of violence against women.
The guests also expressed clear interest from the Women’s Rights Office in UNAMI about the observatory which was launched by the Center lately to coincide with the 16-day campaign against violence towards women, which is dedicated to monitoring the worst types of violence in Iraq. The meeting ended with an agreement between the two sides to set up a working agenda for joint activities such as conducting research, studies and awareness campaigns in this regard.
