Assist. Prof. Dr. Sadiq Habib Abdul Hussein, a faculty member at the college of engineering has presided over a symposium entitled (Journal Desk Rejection: Reasons and Action) held with the aim to introduce what desk-reject means so as to introduce scholars and professors to this topic when studies or field research are being rejected by a journal without being sent out for review so that to find reasons and address each case separately. The participants in this event discussed the most important challenges or difficulties they face in general when writing scientific research and sending it for publication, whether a master’s, doctoral theses or even a research paper. The most important things that contribute to facilitating the work of scientific research have been introduced in order to enable researchers to write structured research accurately without any mistakes to be approved for publication with less time and high accuracy.
The symposium witnessed exchange of opinions and interventions, which reflected positively on the achievement of its objectives, so the participants praised the importance of shedding light on such academic topics as well as the significance of holding similar seminars for undergraduate and postgraduate students to benefit from them when writing their graduation projects. Dr. Sadiq Habib also talked about how to choose the right subject matter, then collecting related data, identifying the problems that the scholars encounter before submitting research for publication, adding that desk-reject is a common method for editors to avoid non-appropriate papers enter the review process, so it is very important to solve such cases in a thoughtful, practical and systematic way for the sake of improving the scientific level of our educational institutions in international rankings.
