Prof. Dr. Marwan Abdul Hameed Ashour, the assistant rector for scientific affairs at the University of Baghdad, has opened up a GIS laboratory at the Center for Urban and Regional Planning for Postgraduate Studies in the presence of the director, Prof. Dr. Kareem Hassan Alwan, professors and students at the center. It is noteworthy that this lab is the first of its kind used for training postgraduate students in the geographic information systems and for providing qualitative lectures on such disciplines, as well as strengthening courses for GIS members. For his part, the director of the center confirmed that the laboratory will organize outdoor courses for state and private sector members and it is authorized to grant licensed certificates from the Environmental Systems Research Institute (ESRI).
