Prof. Dr. Athraa Ismail, Director of the Center for Women’s Studies at the University of Baghdad, has participated in the regional meeting on women, peace and security held in Erbil in the presence of the Director of the Department of Women’s Empowerment at the General Secretariat of the Council of Ministers, Dr. Yusra Kareem, President of the Supreme Council of Women in the Kurdistan Region Khan Zadeh, and Arab figures who represented their countries in this regional forum.

The director of the center put forward an action plan that addressed the establishment of a platform for Arab women who are active in maintaining security and working on the sustainable development of food, health and environmental security to address climate change in different countries and according to their nature. The draft meeting was carried out by the German Agency for International Cooperation of the Organization of the German Parliament entitled “Women Talking peace” in a regional meeting among a number of deputies from the Middle East and North Africa Organization in Iraq to exchange experiences and raise topics of interest to women, develop projects and implementation mechanisms, identify challenges and ways of participation to reach women peacemakers and security makers and empower them in conflict, settle dispute after conflict and build peace.
