The Psychological Guidance and Educational Guidance Unit at the college of pharmacy, in cooperation with the department of relations, information and community police in the ministry of interior, has held an awareness and educational symposium entitled “The dangers of drug abuse and its effects on society” that was delivered by the Assist. Prof. Dr. Rasool Mutlaq Mohammed from the college of arts at the University of Baghdad and the Prof. Saif from the department of community police at Al-Antaki Hall of the college.

The distinguished lecturers discussed the concept of drug addiction and presented statistics on the reality of addiction and crime in Iraq and highlighted the causes of the emergence of addiction and how to prevent and avoid falling into it. In addition to correcting rumors claimed by some about the benefits of certain drugs from stimulating the body and getting rid of the pressures of life, as well as stressing the need to activate the role of the family, society and state institutions and cooperate among them to reduce drug use. In conclusion, the discussion was exchanged among the faculty staff and students also a short film was presented explaining the impact of certain drugs and psychotropic substances on human behavior and mental perception. It is noteworthy that the members of the community police distributed leaflets to students on how to contribute and cooperate with them with the aim to reduce the consequences of such negative phenomena in our society.
