The University of Baghdad was ranked in the first position in Iraq according to the new edition of Webometrics Ranking of World Universities for January 2022 by getting the (1857) position globally according to the indicators obtained during this month. Based on the most current and updated web data, this edition showed an increase in the number of Iraqi universities and colleges that entered in this world university ranking, where (79) Iraqi public and private universities and colleges have competed in this ranking in January 2021.
It is noteworthy that the Webometrics Ranking of World Universities is an initiative of the Cybermetrics Lab which is a research group belonging to (CSIC), the largest public research body in Spain and it is issued every six months based on the most updated and useful information about the performance of universities from all over the world, namely visibility (50%), transparency (or openness) (10%) and excellence (or scholar) (40%). Also it is based on the university’s activities and scientific events that appear on its sub websites, based on: size, i.e., the number of pages on the university’s website that appear across the four search engines (Google, Yahoo, Live Search, Exalead); visibility which means the number of external links (including academic research) that have links on the university’s website where information can be obtained from the aforementioned search engines, as well as any RTF files which calculate the number of “electronic” files of various types that belong to the university’s website via Google search engine, in addition to Google Scholar free accessible web search engine that indexes the full text or metadata of scholarly literature across an array of publishing formats and disciplines via the main domain and the sub domains of the university’s website.
