The department of biology at the college of science held a lecture entitled “Cornea injuries and methods of treatment and prevention” delivered by Dr. Jinan Mohammed Hassan in the presence of a number of students, researchers and others concerned with medical or therapeutic matters.

The aim of the lecture was to introduce the importance of maintaining eye hygiene and how to protect from injury with microscopy or other risks and how to deal with contact lenses since the cornea is a transparent tissue or the clear outer layer at the front of the eye and it has an important role in the function of the eye and clear vision and this part may develop infectious or non-contagious injuries or inflammation caused by infectious microscopic organisms such as bacteria, viruses, fungi or others. The lecture also included an explanation of some causes of minor injuries not related to microbiology, including wearing contact lenses for a long time or the entrance of a foreign body into the eye or other minor cases that can be treated with antibiotics after clinical diagnosis so as to prevent the development of the minor or moderate condition to a more severe condition that may lead to the loss of vision and serious complications or even blood poisoning.
