The department of biological technologies, in collaboration with the continuing education unit at the college of science has organized a scientific lecture entitled “Drug Addiction” in the presence of a number of students, professors and those interested in the medical, pharmaceutical and chemical affairs in addition to members of the educational and psychological guidance committees from inside and outside the university.

The aim of the lecture was to introduce the challenges that cast a negative shadow on society in its age groups, especially young people, because of its social, material and health disadvantages, the importance of awareness and early prevention from falling into the clutches of this destructive scourge, as well as to introduce the types of various drugs and narcotic plants in addition to studying the concept of addiction, causes and effects on all aspects of life. The lecture was presented by Dr. Rusul Ameen Abu al-Timin, who talked about a range of substances that cause addiction and poisoning the nervous system, pointing out that the word “anesthetic” is a word used to describe any drug used to induce anesthesia that results in a temporary loss of sensation or awareness, pointing out that the drugs are a serious and deadly phenomenon that has recently begun to spread in all communities in an unprecedented way, stressing that it has become a threat leading to collapse and chaos as a “scourge of the times”, especially among the young people which requires focusing on and finding solutions early.
