The stadiums of the college of physical education and sports sciences at the University of Baghdad witnessed recently the events of the three-day baseball & softball tournament stadiums sponsored by the Iraqi Federation in the presence of the third deputy of the Iraqi National Olympic Committee Dr. Ahmed Hanoon. The team of Baghdad province won this championship through competition with four teams representing the provinces of Maysan, Kirkuk, Diwaniyah and Ninawa.
The president of the Iraqi Baseball and Softball Federation and SoftBall Mr. Ali al-Baldawi stated during his speech that the Baghdad team won (8-7) in the final of the championship over the Maysan team which came in second place, while Kirkuk came in third place, adding that the Baghdad team won this local title deservedly after his players provided a great level of efficiency, pointing out that the tournament witnessed strong competition between the participating teams. It is noteworthy that this tournament was held within the annual curriculum approved by the Board of Directors of the Game Federation in implementation of the action plan to spread the game and expand the rules of its practitioners in sports clubs in all provinces, so as to enrich our national teams with new players to participate in Arab, continental and international championships during the coming year.
