Assist. Prof. Dr. Yassin Hussein Alwan, a faculty member from the department of Islamic philosophy at the college of Islamic sciences has presented a research paper entitled “The phenomenon of neglect of the elderly and its impact on the family and society”, in the proceedings of the third virtual international scientific conference held at and sponsored by the college of Islamic sciences at the University of Diyala. In this study, he explained the reality of the Islamic human outlook and the extent to which Islam sympathizes with this segment of people who has given most of its life in the service of religion and the homeland, and the need to take into account the health and emotional conditions of the elderly in two chapters, the first of which dealt with this topic according to the Islamic law with a reference to the elderly in the Holy Quran, including some holy verses that mentioned the elderly parents or others, as well as the elderly from the prophetic perspective. The second chapter addressed the religious and social significance of taking care of the elderly in the Muslim community and its effect on the family in particular and on community in general.
