The department of English language at the college of education for women at the University of Baghdad held its first scientific symposium entitled “Criticism in linguistic studies” with the participation of a number of professors and postgraduate students at the department so as to exchange points of view in this regard. The lecturers addressed some of the latest research in linguistic studies, most notably the intermarriage or the overlap between the critical theory and other linguistic theories that deal with the analysis of critical discourse and critical or creative thinking and skills related to them and explained the slight and the distinct differences between them in all fields of knowledge. Also they answered some questions regarding dialogue and several enriched ideas about criticism of linguistic research and studies. In conclusion, the symposium came up with a number of recommendations that would enrich linguistic studies, including the need to introduce researchers to this modern type of linguistic studies for the purpose of including them in their future scientific research and in the contemporary curriculum.
