The rehabilitation and employment unit at the college of fine arts at the University of Baghdad held a seminar on combating the habit of smoking and to study its effects on university students in the presence of the undergraduate and postgraduate students with the participation of Prof. Dr. Raja Saadi Lafta and the assistant dean for scientific affairs, Prof. Dr. Basim al-Ghaban from the department of design, Prof. Dr. Aser Fakhri from the department of musical arts, Assist. Lecturer Haitham Sabah, the director of registration at the college and in the presence of Prof. Dr. Ali Sabah Salman, the assistant dean of administrative affairs.
The participants explained the harms of smoking as an adequate negative habit that causes many deaths by reviewing statistics and figures for the patients whi suffer from the respiratory diseases and lung cancer for smokers at the local and international levels, as well as addressing the concept of passive smoking in public places and its effects on people in any society in general and on the university environment in particular as well as alerting students to legal procedures against smokers inside the university. Also a guiding film prepared by the Prof. Dr. Basim al-Ghaban was presented in this event which addressed the most influential methods used for quit smoking in light of the university’s instructions against violators.
