Assist. Prof. Dr. Ammar Bassim Saleh, a faculty member of the college of Islamic sciences at the department of Sharia has published a research paper entitled “Cognitive theory and the impact of modernity in the employment of Qur’anic studies: a contemporary intellectual study” in the Basic Sciences Journal issued by the University of Wasit. The researcher confirmed that the modernists has generalized the possibility of interpretation of Quran at all levels of the Qur’anic text, regardless of what is likely to be interpreted, which is a proposal that may consist of the danger and possibility of distorting or altering the Islamic provisions. The research also illustrated the importance of mental interpretation which is described as a jurisprudence that cannot be independent because there are some holy verses that can only be interpreted by reference to the Prophet’s Sunnah, in the sense that it is indispensable for mental interpretation contrary to the modernist approach of interpretation.
