Assist. Prof. Dr. Fatima Abdul Kadhim Hamad, a faculty member at the college of media has published recently a research paper entitled “The image of minorities among the Iraqis” with the aim to classify and evaluate the image of “the other” according to different stereotypes and characteristics amplified through an incitement to violence that may lead to conflicts in different societies. She stated that when we study some cultural heritages, it becomes clear to us the extent of such trends targeting those Iraqi minorities, especially in times of conflict, since these perceptions can be reproduced by referring to them via reductive qualities based on prejudices.
Also Dr. Fatima Abdul Kadhim studied the variables that influenced the nature of that image so as to figure out the descriptive analytical approach from quantitative and qualitative perspectives that were common during the period (2016 – 2017) depending on a scale built for measuring a cluster sample that represented (400) individuals from various geographical areas in all the provinces of Iraq. Then she conducted interviews related to how the image of minorities is formed and found out that the perceptions related to the minorities’ values and behavioral features are disparate according to their races and nationalities and that the public has positive perceptions mainly of the Christians, then the Sabeans and Shabak, while their perceptions were more negative about Turkmen and Yazidis, asserting that the direct experience or communication with minorities or the media are the critical factors that determined such attitudes.
