The department of astronomy and space at the college of science has organized recently an astronomical evening in Fallujah in the province of Al Anbar, on the occasion of the World Space Week and with the participation of a number of amateurs interested in applied sciences to study their secrets and relationship to public life.
The evening aimed to introduce some technological applications including how to use telescopes in monitoring stars and astronomical phenomena, knowing the legitimate times, gravitational waves and daytime observations that all create an atmosphere of interaction through various questions about astronomy and space in which the attendees of different ages and specialties responded with the aim of spreading this culture in our community, especially among the youth and children. This event was supervised by Prof. Dr. Abdul Rahman Hussein Saleh, a faculty member at the department of astronomy and the Chairman of a committee related with the International Astronomical Union, who gave a simplified training course on how to calculate the movement of the earth’s rotation as well as the astronomical practical monitoring of Venus, Jupiter and its moons, land navigation methods and how to identify directions through wind, shadow and stars.
