Dr. Aliaa Abdul Hussein Nasser, a professor from the department of English language and Assist. Prof. Dr. Ali Turki Nafil from the department of psychology at the college of arts have participated recently in a training workshop entitled (International Humanitarian Law in Peace Studies) organized by Al-Amal Association within the European Union Human Rights Defenders Program in collaboration with the University of Innsbruck, Austria.

The workshop aimed to complete all the initiatives towards developing peace and conflict studies in the Iraqi universities through coordination with the ministry of higher education and scientific research and various relevant international bodies. The lectures were delivered by the Austrian peace researcher, political scientist and president of the UNESCO Chair in Peace Studies at the University of Innsbruck Prof. Wolfgang Dietrich who reviewed the history of peace studies and the importance of cross-disciplinary methodologies in this academic field, as well as the role of human rights, culture and heritage in international humanitarian law and peace studies in Iraq. During their discussions, the participants also recommended more concern to studying such aspects in order to increase the awareness of university students in peace studies and to erase the heavy legacy of war inherited in the Iraqi community and to enforce a gradual change in the life of our nation.
