Prof. Dr. Omar al-Ishari and Prof. Dr. Marwan Abdul Hamid have published a joint scientific research paper entitled “Electricity consumption forecasting in Iraq with artificial neural network” in Springer publishing company.

In this research, the authors tried to find the best way for predicting electricity consumption using non-linear automatic recoil models (NAR) by analyzing the data of Iraq’s annual electricity consumption rate for the period (1980 – 2013). They reached at some significant findings the most important of which is that the use of neural networks is very promising when conducting predictive analyses because of the hidden layers as well as that for the sake of making such predictions, the linear regression models use only input and output nodes. They also asserted that the hidden layer is used by the neural network to improve the predictive accuracy because it “learns” in the same way as human beings and that is why more future research should be accomplished for using smart forecasting methods as an alternative to the traditional means.
