The department of scientific affairs at the presidency of the University of Baghdad has organized a lecture on the importance of the H-index, which being an author-level metric that measures both the productivity and citation impact of the publications, initially used for scholars in order to evaluate the quality of research and scientific output undertaken by faculty members at the university. The lecture was delivered by Prof. Dr. Ghassan Hamid Abdul Majid with the aim to increase the knowledge about this metric and to develop an action plan towards improving our university’s status in international rankings.

Then Dr. Ghassan Hamid added that this index is based on the set of the scientist’s most cited papers and the number of citations that they have received in other publications in search engine, namely Google that includes data about 200 million documents, Scopus database that provides access to 42 thousand journals and the Web of Science providing subscription-based access to 17 thousand journals. The lecturer also recommended the need to publish research in sober journals by following the mechanisms that enhance the scientific value of the University of Baghdad.
