The college of law at the University of Baghdad, in collaboration with the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) has recently organized a workshop on international humanitarian law for postgraduate students for the master and doctorate degrees. The workshop aimed to introduce students to how to search for references and previous studies related to this topic and how to open access to the official website of ICRC in order to obtain relevant documents.
The participants highlighted the history and areas of work of ICRC as a humanitarian organization based in Geneva, Switzerland that has a mandate to protect victims of international and internal armed conflicts, including war wounded persons, prisoners, refugees, civilians, and other non-combatants. Also they addressed the role and the most significant activities of the International Committee of the Red Cross in Iraq through helping the displaced people, refugees and civilians in certain places affected by fighting during crises. It is noteworthy that ICRC intends to assist people in access to clean water and health care, as well as to visit detainees and enabling them to maintain contact with their families and support the authorities’ efforts to clarify the fate of people missing from earlier conflicts.
