The Biological Research Unit for Hot Areas, in collaboration with Ibn Sina unit for e-learning and the continuing education unit at the college of science has organized a virtual scientific lecture on “Using the Maxent model in the study of the spread of species” with the participation of a number of students and researchers from inside and outside the college. The aim of the lecture was to study speicies, whether they are pathogens such as virus, bacterial, parasitic, fungal, or vectors of diseases such as insects or animal, plant or human species, which are important topics with overlapping nature in scientific disciplines.
The lecture, which was given by Assist. Prof. Dr. Mohammed Jaber, who tried to discuss the development of methods of studying proliferation, which is one of the most popular scientific topics in modern sciences, pointing out that Maxent, which stands for maximum entropy modelling, used for predicting species occurrences by finding the distribution that is most spread out, or closest to uniform, while taking into account the limits of the environmental variables of known locations. He added that Maxent is one of the latest models in the study of species, pointing out that it is distinguished from other traditional models since it has its own software for easy application.
