Prof. Dr. Munir Hamid al-Saadi, rector of the University of Baghdad has signed a memorandum of understanding with Professor Louise Kenny, the Executive Pro Vice Chancellor of the Faculty of Health and Life Sciences at the University of Liverpool regarding the Iraq Health Lung Project (IHLP) and for the development of joint academic, scientific and cultural projects. The scientific coordinator of the memorandum of understanding at the college of science, Assist. Prof. Dr. Ahmed Salem Kazim stated that the memorandum aims to design an Iraqi risk model to predict the risk of lung cancer among people long before its emergence, so as to conduct an early diagnosis of this malignant disease in an attempt to save a lot of work, effort and cost at the Iraqi medical institutions.

The terms of this agreement included the exchange of curricula, the establishment of mutual research projects with faculty members and graduate students, as well as holding academic events in accordance with the regulations of both countries within five years, on condition that the parties maintain the confidentiality of the information while adhering to the legislative and regulatory framework, as well as reviewing or modifying its terms annually. This memorandum is the beginning of a broad cooperation and coordination between the two universities at the level of research and academic expertise with the participation of a large team of scientists and consultant doctors from the University of Baghdad and the Iraqi Ministry of Health and their counterparts at the University of Liverpool, UK.
