Prof. Dr. Munir Hamid al-Saadi, rector of the University of Baghdad has received recently the Russian Ambassador to Iraq, Mr. Elbrus Kutrashev and his entourage in a visit that is the first of its kind since His Excellency has received his credentials in May. Dr. Munir al-Saadi gave a detailed overview on various university’s formations and its scientific departments since the establishment of its first college in 1908, stating that there are 24 colleges, 4 postgraduate institutes as well as 10 research and service centers that play a leading role in coordination with state institutions for providing related scientific and advisory knowledge in addition to supporting the private sector with outstanding skills.

Then he addressed the abundance of scientific output of the mother of Iraqi universities including publishing 15,000 research papers in international journals, also concluding different academic agreements and memorandums of cultural understanding with international universities. For his part, Mr. Elbrus Kutrashev congratulated the rector for the success of carrying out final exams in light of the challenges of Coronavirus pandemic, stressing that this step will reflect the upgrading status and reputation of the university, praising the achievements of the qualified Iraqi scholars who have studied in Russia. The ambassador expressed his hope to open up prospects for joint cooperation between the two parties in the exchange of experiences, visits and fellowships, in light of his prospected visit to the department of Russian language at the college of languages, however Dr. Munir al-Saadi expressed his delight for the possibility of hosting Russian professors to give lectures, cooperate in scientific research in the fields of antiquities between the two countries.
