Prof. Dr. Shuruq Muhammad Kazim Saad al-Din, a lecturer from the institute of genetic engineering and biotechnology for postgraduate studies published a patent approved from the Central Organization for Standardization and Quality Control (COSQC) at the ministry of planning entitled: “A new method for extracting the genetic material of Toxocara canis in its adult stage by adding Dithiothreitol (DTT) to the traditional organic method.
The patent dealt with the problem of extracting the genetic material of T. canis whose difficulty lies in the composition of the outer surface cells of the parasite’s biological wall consisting of collagen (cuticle), as well as the lack of a specialized molecular laboratory test in all Iraqi governmental and private hospitals to diagnose this parasite using modern molecular techniques.
